The Guardian
"Benaiah chased a lion down into a pit. Then, despite the snow and slippery ground, he caught the lion and killed it." II Samuel 23:20

Began work on a new sculpture based on a sermon series, Chase the Lion, by my Pastor Brain Ross taken from a book by his friend Mark Batterson, "In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day". The basic story line is about Benaiah, one of King David of Israel's Mighty Men - David's Captain of his Bodyguard - who is seen in the Torah/Old Testament book of II Samuel. My hope is to capture the Israelite Warrior of the 1,000 BC era - Warrior, Chaser of lion, King's Guardian... Follow along and let me know what you think... |

Shield with Star of David reinforcing straps*, Spear, Sword with leather scabbard and Dagger with wolf hair scabbard (*The earliest archaeological magen David national symbol is on a Babylonian bas relief carving, in the 6th century BC, though some scholars reference the symbol as far back as 1000 BC.) |
